Auphonic: Optimize Your Podcast Audio With One-Click

When we built our MarTech community, we knew it would be valuable for our vast network of readers to update and share the knowledge that they’d acquired. When I wrote about podcast audio, Temitayo Osinubi shared an amazing tool called Auphonic. Unless you’re a sound engineer, tweaking the audio of your podcasts can be a daunting task. And recording tools like Garageband don’t provide very much in the way of optimization tools – you just have to know what the capabilities are.

Temitayo pointed me in the direction of Auphonic, a web-based and desktop based application that optimizes both the richness and volume of your podcast audio. The technology can even normalize a single track where one speaker is louder than the other… pretty amazing. I gave it a test run with one of my recordings and I was instantly hooked and bought both of the desktop applications – one for single-track optimization and the other for multi-track optimization.

Side note: Temitayo interviewed me on his podcast and it was a great time – listen here.

Auphonic Leveler

The Auphonic Leveler is an intelligent Desktop Batch Audio File Processor which analyzes your audio and corrects level differences between speakers, between music and speech and between multiple audio files to achieve a balanced overall loudness.
It includes a True Peak Limiter, targets for common Loudness Standards (EBU R128, ATSC A/85, Podcasts, Mobile, etc.) and automatic Noise and Hum Reduction algorithms.

The Auphonic Leveler is available for Mac OS X 10.6+ (64bit) andWindows 7+ (32bit or 64bit).

Auphonic Multitrack

Auphonic Multitrack takes multiple input audio tracks, analyzes and processes them individually as well as combined and creates the final mixdown automatically.  Leveling, dynamic range compression, gating, noise and hum reduction, crosstalk removal, ducking and filtering can be applied automatically according to the analysis of each track.  Loudness normalization and true peak limiting is used on the final mixdown.

Auphonic Multitrack is built for speech-dominated programs and is available for Mac OS X 10.6+ (64bit) and Windows 7+ (32bit or 64bit).

I’ve been using them extensively and it has to be noted that they don’t perform miracles. I had a high-pitched hum in one of my podcasts and, unfortunately, it was exaggerated not minimized after I ran it through. However, I absolutely love this set of tools and have had incredible results with it thus far! Thanks to Temitayo!

Why We Never Do Press Release Distribution Services Anymore

Press Release Distribution

One of our clients surprised us today, they let us know that they signed up for a Press Release Distribution service recommended by one of their partners where they could distribute their press release to over 500 different sites. I immediately groaned… here’s why: Press Release Distribution services don’t rank the content you promote at all, so unless someone’s actively listening for specific press releases, they’re often never found in search results. Press Release Distribution services are overrun by terrible,
