How to Promote Events on Social Media Like a Superhero!

Marketers continue to see great results with social media for building brand awareness, driving conversions, and building relationships with prospects and customers. I’m not sure a single industry comes close to seeing the massive impact of social media that event marketers are seeing.

When you can latch into social media for building awareness, friends sharing the event with other friends drives incredible traffic. And when we’re at the event, sharing our experience helps us to record those memories, share them online with people who have second thoughts about not going (this time), and continue to build awareness.

Facebook generates 4 million “likes” every single minute  Tweet This!, and Twitter boasts around 500 million tweets every single day  Tweet This! These recent statistics alone show just how powerful these platforms are on a daily basis, and it also creates the chance to create meaningful social relationships with other event professionals, organisers, speakers and potential attendees. No event professional should ignore these platforms, as the power they hold is priceless to creating and marketing successful events. Maximillion Event Creators

Maximillion published this infographic, Social Superheroes present Event Marketing to help marketers utilize the marketing powers of social media before, during, and after your event. The infographic walks through strategies for each social network:

  • How to Promote Events on Facebook – Create an event page, utilize Facebook Ads to target interested regional attendees, run a competition, follow-up personally, and involve your network. I’d also add that it’s important to share the event and reshare your attendees updates!
  • How to Promote Events on Twitter – Create a unique, simple event hashtag and communicate it through all your collateral, ask speakers to co-host Twitter Chats, discover and retweet active conversations during the event, create Twitter lists of sponsors, speakers and attendees, and build relationships throughout.
  • How to Promote Events on LinkedIn – Publish a content post about the event, provide regular updates leading up to the event, utilize Direct Messaging to promote the event to your network, create a showcase page, and create an Event Group for ongoing networking and conversation.
  • How to Promote Events on Pinterest – Create an event guide, promote your sponsors, add your boards to your website, create topic and mood boards for the event, and interact with followers throughout.
  • How to Promote Events on Instagram – Use your event hashtag on every update, share photos and videos to promote the event, host a photo competition, integrate and share throughout your other social accounts, and promote your sponsors and speakers.
  • How to Promote Events on Snapchat – Utilize the story features, create a selfie competition, build post event relationships, message your followers and engage directly with event attendees.

I’m always amazed at how so many events lack the resources to fully leverage social media before, during and after an event. It’s especially disconcerting when your event is a regular one! You can create some incredible desire and energy sharing throughout an event… and prospects will be sure to register for the next one after seeing what they missed!

If all of this sounds like a ton of work, enlist some volunteers! Interns and students are amazing at social media and often don’t have the cash to attend the events they’d love to. A great trade is providing free access and a fantastic event staff shirt to an intern and let them loose on social media!
